Recipe for Frosted Flakes Treats (1)

We ran out of rice krispy cereal one night and decided we'd try some Frosted Flakes treats. They were amazing! Maybe not so great on the insulin pump. My husband usually requires a changing after eating these Frosted Flake Rice Krispie Treats. It's actually quite comical to watch him eat these. One bite of rice krispie treat, and then the familiar chime of the insulin pump delivering insulin. Another bite, another chime. It gets pretty musical around our house when these treats come along.

Ingredients

You only need three ingredients to make these treats! You will need:

  • Butter
  • Frosted Flakes
  • Marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Lightly grease an 8x8 inch pan to prevent the treats from sticking.
  2. Melt the Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat until it's completely melted. Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until they melt and the mixture becomes smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine with Cereal: Turn off the heat and slowly add the cereal to the marshmallow mixture, stirring until the cereal is fully coated and evenly combined.
  4. Transfer to Pan: Pour the cereal and marshmallow mixture into the prepared 8x8 inch pan. Using lightly greased hands or a spatula, gently press the mixture into the pan until it's evenly distributed and compacted.

Substitutions

It's easy to make substitutions to this recipe so everyone can enjoy!

  • Low Sugar: There are some lower sugar alternatives for Frosted Flakes. This brand from EnviroKidz has only 8 grams of sugar per serving. You can also use sugar free marshmallows.
  • Vegan: For a vegan version you will want to use plant based butter and vegan marshmallows.
  • Gluten free: This recipe is naturally gluten free so no substitutions will need to be made.

Storing

  • After cutting the cereal into bars, store bars in an airtight container for several days. They probably will not make it that long.
  • These bars a lot of times never make it to getting cut into bars. These taste amazing right after you pour them into the pan. They are rich, gooey and delicious. Just grab a fork!

Equipment

You will need a pan to place your recipe for Frosted Flakes into. You will also need a pan to melt the butter and marshmallows. We typically use a wooden spoon to stir the mixture.

Variations

  • Additions: Feel free to add extra ingredients such as chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit for added flavor and texture.
  • Decorate: Drizzle melted chocolate or top with sprinkles for a fun and festive touch.
  • Shape: Instead of cutting the treats into squares, use cookie cutters to create fun shapes like stars, hearts, or animals.

I am definitely going to try. Might I suggest taking wax paper and pressing it into the pan that way you don't get your hands all greasy.

That would be a fantastic idea. The only problem is I never really get a chance to pour the mixture into the pan before my husband is there with the fork eating over my shouder. He loves them hot and fresh off the stove. Enjoy!
