[Gematsu] Akitoshi Kawazu on SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered: ‘You won’t be disappointed if you wait’ (2025)

Kawazu appeared in a video message during the 40th official Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe broadcast on April 1 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of SaGa Frontier 2's release with new content for the mobile game, and while he was clear that this was not a remaster announcement, he did tease one is coming.

If it means backgrounds as gooey and beautiful as Legend of Mana or SaGa 1.... take youuuur tiiiime

So looking forward to this. Curious as to what changes (if any) they'll make. Really thinking they have to nerf Moundtop as that battle is total RNG in the original game.

Not to mention making sure players don't hard-lock themselves at The Last Megalith while being underleveled and thus having to restart the entire game, I'm" totally not guilty there.

SaGa Frontier 2 is probably my favorite SaGa.

Announce the remaster already! This "we're not announcing it, but it's coming, but we're not announcing it" thing is getting old.

Yessss, new content would make me lose my shit.

I hope it has the same amount, or more, of new content that they added to the first SaGa Frontier Remaster, which was incredible.

I haven't played the re-release of Minstrel Song yet, but that had new content too, and so did the new 2D version of Romancing SaGa 2, so it seems to be a recurring feature they are doing with the majority of these remasters.

Damn, love how all the SaGas are getting remade/remastered.

If only Terranigma would get that love...

It looks a lot better in stills than it does in gameplay. Low res sprites wandering on top of nearly completely static watercolor backgrounds is a lot less impressive in motion.

That being said, while fun to look at the gameplay is completely busted. I'm not sure if it's the most difficult PS1 jrpg but it's gotta be up there due to some really bizarre design decisions.

Honestly I applaud the pacing of these SaGa remasters.

I buy them all as they come out, but it's been extremely nice that I'm able to play them AND have plenty of breathing room before the next drop. I've completed RS2, platinumed SF1, and beaten Scarlet Grace.

These are the kinds of games you don't want to play back-to-back-to-back if you can help it.

...also I'm still mostly excited to see what they do with Unlimited. 👀

I would personally remake it to be more in the style of Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond (with elements from U added to it) but I know a lot of the Unlimited diehards would probably be firmly against that.

Unlimited was interesting and beautiful to look at from a visual standpoint but man, it needs a lot of reworking.
