A Solid Step Up

Milvo 28.01.2021

As an aspiring guitarist heading into intermediate territory, I wanted to upgrade my acoustic from my 40-year-old Guild dreadnought to something with better resonance that would reward my improvement and encourage me even more.
The Epiphone Hummingbird was the answer. Its tone is superb, particularly on the bass side, and of course it has the famed cherry burst look and hummingbird pickguard design of the vastly more expensive Gibson original.
The Sonicore pickup and hidden volume/tone control are fine for an intermediate player but more accomplished guitarists might prefer something more sophisticated for their preamp purposes.
What's really impressive about the guitar is the build quality. While a discount version of the Gibson original, it's not a cheap plunker and you would expect the finish to be up to scratch, which it is. The frets are smooth, the body wood quality is outstanding, and the joins are flawless. It feels reassuringly heavy and the faded gloss burst finish is gorgeous. It's a shame Epiphone didn't offer at least a gig bag for a guitar at this price but you can't have everything.
Kudos to Thomann for their service, which helped me with a glitch during purchase and made sure it got to me in Paris in no time.

Good alternative to the overly expensive Gibson

Richie40 10.07.2021

Bought this as I wasn’t prepared to pay stupid money for a Gibson Hummingbird.
Very impressed by the sound and build quality, no problems at all.
As a result this is a joy to play .

Sounds better than my Gibson

AndyM75 27.02.2021

I am fortunate to own a Gibson J-35 and the hummingbird sounds better to me. It has a fuller and richer sound. I did a lot of research before buying this and am so glad i did. I am in the uk and didn't realise i had to pay vat to DHL but it was till 25 quid cheaper than buying in the UK. I am going to sell the J35 and buy the inspired by Gibson J200.

Eine fantastische Gitarre

Rolf582 30.11.2020

Epiphone Hummingbird Features:

The Epiphone Hummingbird is praised for its features in the reviews. However, it is mentioned that more accomplished guitarists might prefer something more sophisticated for their preamp purposes. It's important to note that the features of a guitar can vary depending on the model and version. Some common features of the Epiphone Hummingbird may include:

  1. Body Type: The Epiphone Hummingbird typically has a dreadnought body shape, which provides a balanced tone and powerful projection.
  2. Tonewoods: The guitar may feature a solid spruce top for a bright and articulate sound, along with mahogany back and sides for warmth and depth.
  3. Pickup System: The Sonicore pickup mentioned in the article allows the guitar to be amplified when connected to an amplifier or PA system. It may also have hidden volume and tone controls for adjusting the sound.
  4. Design: The Epiphone Hummingbird is known for its cherry burst look and hummingbird pickguard design, which resembles the more expensive Gibson original.

Sound Quality:

The reviews highlight the sound quality of the Epiphone Hummingbird, with positive remarks about its tone, fullness, richness, and harmonics. Sound quality is subjective and can vary depending on personal preferences and playing styles. However, the Epiphone Hummingbird is generally considered to have a balanced and warm sound with good projection. It is known for its strong bass response and overall pleasing tonal characteristics.

Build Quality:

The build quality of the Epiphone Hummingbird is also discussed in the reviews. It is mentioned that the guitar is not a cheaply made instrument and that the finish, frets, wood quality, and joins are of high quality. The guitar is described as feeling reassuringly heavy and having a gorgeous faded gloss burst finish. These positive comments indicate that the Epiphone Hummingbird offers good craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Price and Value:

The reviews compare the Epiphone Hummingbird to the more expensive Gibson Hummingbird. It is mentioned that the Epiphone version is a good alternative to the Gibson, providing similar sound and build quality at a more affordable price.
