Cap'n Crunch Milkshake Recipe (1)

It has come to my attention that there are two types of cereal eaters out there – those that like their cereal to remain crunchy, and those that like their cereal to be soggy, soaking up as much milk as possible. My husband and I are in two vastly different camps when it comes to our cereal-eating habits. I only pour enough milk into the bowl to barely cover the cereal and love my cereal crunchy. My husband, on the other hand, drowns his cereal in milk and lets it sit for five to 10 minutes before eating it so that it gets nice and soggy.

Neither of us can understand the other’s cereal-eating habits, but when I saw Heidi make a Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshake with milk that had been infused with cereal, I knew it was something that my husband would love. I decided to make a version using one of his favorite guilty pleasure cereals – Cap’n Crunch.

The cereal-infused milk is a technique used in the Momof*cku Milk Bar cookbook and totally mimics the soggy cereal that my husband is so fond of…I combined it with the ratios that I typically use for milkshakes and it turned out fabulous. You can adjust the amount of ice cream or milk to make a thicker or thinner milkshake; this one is nice and thick, but still able to be slurped up using a straw.Whipped cream and extra cereal on top for good measure, of course!

Tell me – what kind of cereal eater are you, and what’s your favorite guilty pleasure cereal?

I made this recipe and it was delicious.
I modified the Captain Crunch soaking time to 30 minutes and it was still fabulous.

I would make this with peanut butter captain crunch!

I am loving this! Cap’n crunch was always my favorite but it shredded the roof of my mouth every time I ate it. What a great way to enjoy the flavor without the physical damage! I must try it with my second favorite- OOPS ALL BERRIES!
    Thanks for a great recipe!

Damn it, I don’t think I can get captain crunch here in New Zealand! I’ll have to have a search for it so I can make this though. And a side note: I’m on the keep-your-cereal-crunchy team! Don’t know how people like it soggy, interesting

my favorite guilty pleasure cereal is Reese’s Puffs! I think it would make a milkshake almost as tasty as this one looks! yum!!

Seldom buy anything but oatmeal or oat bran but would rather eat the boxed cereals like Cheerios dry than with milk. No soggy for me other than the first two I mentioned.

I gotta tell you, that for all the crunchy and soggy cereal camps, there exists the odd hybrid camp. I love the crunch and the sog. What I detest is uniform bites the whole bowl through. I want a crunch in one spoonful, a slurp from another and then the occasional sog with a bite of crunch mixed in. Followed by a swallow of just the cereal flavored milk.
But then I am also the girl who cannot eat just cookie or just dough. I need a plate with a cookie, a spoonful of the dough, and just for good measure a scoop of cookie dough ice cream on the side.
Oh, and frighteningly enough, my guilty pleasure cereal? Bran flakes.

I’m exactly the same! Including the thing with the bran flakes, too… though I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch too!

I love any type of cheerios! I basically love most cereals-cap n crunch, honeycomb, etc., but I am not fond of cocoa puffs or cookie crisp.

Is anyone else not getting the newsletters anymore?

Ewww soggy cereal is the worst! One of the reason why I don’t eat cereal. However I can face drinking it though! Love this idea of a cereal shake.

My favorite guilty pleasure cereal is peanut butter Cap’n Crunch- although that might change now that they re-released French Toast Crunch Cereal. What’s your favorite?
Also, I was thinking maybe if Cap’n Crunch is your hubby’s favorite soggy cereal it might be to help preserve the roof of his mouth; I can never wait to let mine soften in milk and it tears the roof of my mouth to shreds.
    Just a thought!
